We're excited to offer an EV charging pilot program as a valuable service to residents and appreciate your interest in the pilot program.

 

Below you'll find everything you need to know about the costs involved and what participation in the pilot program will entail.

 

COST BREAKDOWN

 

The cost to participate in this pilot is $1,900. 

 

For context, the average cost of installing a home EV charger in Victoria is currently $2,377.

 

An annual administration fee of $150 will apply from the conclusion of the pilot. The pilot is expected to run until June 2027, after which the administration fee will commence. This covers the ongoing management and operation of the charging system, as well as the mandatory annual compliance checks required to keep the equipment safe and up to standard.

 

WHAT'S INCLUDED

 

The pilot includes a dedicated Schneider Charge Pro EV charger for your parking space. This single-phase, tethered unit delivers up to 7.4 kW, providing fast and reliable overnight charging. If you prefer an untethered charger, please let us know when confirming your participation.

 

To prevent misuse, the charger is secured via RFID technology. 2 RFID cards will be provided as part of the pilot program. Additional cards, key fobs or tags can be requested.

 

Please note that the charger and associated accessories remain the property of the Owners Corporation. As use of the charger is exclusive to a single lot, the benefit principle outlined in the Owners Corporation Act applies — meaning the cost of the charger must be met by the lot that benefits from it.

 

ELECTRICITY COSTS

 

Electricity will be charged at the same rate as the building's common area power, based on your actual usage. You'll only ever pay for what you charge.

 

To give you a sense of how this compares, here's a cost comparison based on average Australian EV usage of 14,000 km per year (approx. 2,400 kWh annually):

Annual Cost This pilot:  $0.21/kWh or $504 annually

Externally Managed network*:  $0.60 or $1,440 annually

 

*Based on typical rates from networks such as Chargefox (2026).

 

 

WHAT WE'LL ASK OF YOU

 

As this is a pilot program, your participation plays an important role in shaping the future of EV charging at ILK. During the trial, we'll ask participants to share data on:

 

  • Total power consumed (kWh)

  • Charging frequency and session times

  • General charging habits and patterns

  • Feedback on the charging process and equipment
